DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

This article provides a strategy for deploying application monitoring across multiple servers and creating simple UP/DOWN dashboards within DX Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM).

Environment

  • DX Unified Infrastructure Management 23.4.*
  • Monitoring Configuration Service (MCS)
  • Operator Console (OC) Dashboard Designer

Cause

Guidance

Resolution

Deploy monitoring profiles across application groups and visualize the data by following these steps:

  1. Create Dynamic Groups:
    • Access the Operator Console and navigate to Groups.
    • Create a dynamic group targeting a small set of servers for initial testing (e.g., based on a specific naming convention or application tag).
  2. Configure MCS Profiles:
    • In the Monitoring tab, select the newly created group.
    • Deploy a Processes profile using a reference device to ensure configurations are consistent across the group.
  3. Validate and Expand:
    • Verify the monitoring outcome on the initial set of servers.
    • Once confirmed, expand the group membership to include all target servers for the application group; MCS will automatically deploy the profiles to the new members.
  4. Create Dashboards:
    • Open the Dashboard Designer (or Business Intelligence portlet in newer versions).
    • Add widgets to represent the process status.
    • Configure the data source for each widget to point to the QOS_PROCESS_STATE or alarm data for a simple UP/DOWN visualization.
