Issue/Introduction

  • BGP is down.
  • You have attempted to gather additional outage data from the Edge using the ODS Runbook BgpNeighborState command:

    edgecli> start invocation runbook BgpNeighborState runbook-arg --peer_ip #### ----lr_name <Tier0-Name> --pkt_cap true --pkt_cap_count ####
  • After the runbook execution, one of the output artifact files contains the following text:

    =============================================================
    Cannot derive source interface for address ####
    =============================================================
  • The expected bfd_packet.pcap file is not created in the Edge's /image/vmware/nsx/file-store/ folder.

Environment

  • VMware NSX
  • VMware VCF 9.x

Cause

The use of non-/24 subnets in the Edge's interface IP, such as /29, will trigger the symptom.

Resolution

This is a known issue that will be addressed in a forthcoming version of NSX.
