VMware Tanzu Platform Core VMware Tanzu Platform - Hub

Issue/Introduction

  • In Tanzu Hub, the task for Attaching Foundation fails during a fresh installation or environment repave.
  • The UI or backend logs show: [ERROR] Failed to upload Capability to OpsManager: Streaming upload failed: 422 Unprocessable Entity from POST https://<opsman-url>/api/v0/available_products
  • In graphql-rest-provider-service.log, the following sequence appears:

INFO com.vmware.ensemble.fleet.opsman.client.ClientHelper - Upload completed for platform-services-10.4.0.pivotal: 1876.32MB total uploaded
ERROR com.vmware.ensemble.fleet.opsman.client.ClientHelper - Pure streaming upload failed for platform-services-10.4.0.pivotal: 422 Unprocessable Entity from POST https://<opsman-url>/api/v0/available_products

  •
  • This is an expected failure for environments running on infrastructure providers other than vSphere, see Automated Foundation Attach fails in Tanzu Hub with 422 Unprocessible Entity. This error is not expected on vSphere backed environments.

Environment

  • VMware Tanzu Platform Hub 10.4.0+
  • VMware Tanzu Platform Core (Ops Manager)
  • Infrastructure: vSphere

Cause

This issue occurs when the Ops Manager API rejects the streaming upload of the Platform Services capability tile from Tanzu Hub. This is often seen in "freshly repaved" or new install environments where the initial automated capability sync fails to process through the /available_products endpoint due to internal API state or timeouts.

Resolution

If the automated streaming upload fails with a 422 error, follow these manual steps to resolve the attachment:

  1. Log in to the Broadcom Support Portal and navigate to Tanzu Network.
  2. Download the Platform Services for VMware Tanzu Platform tile (v10.4.0 or matching version).
  3. Log in to your Ops Manager Installation Dashboard.
  4. Click Import a Product and upload the .pivotal file manually.
  5. Once the tile is staged in Ops Manager, return to Tanzu Hub.
  6. Restart the Auto-Attach Foundation workflow.
  7. Tanzu Hub will detect the existing capability in Ops Manager and complete the attachment successfully.

For additional steps on downloading software, see Download Broadcom products and software.
