VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • During a VAMI update of a vCenter Server using a URL, the process fails. The system displays the following error when attempting to connect to the Broadcom Online Repository:
"The provided token is not entitled for accessing the Broadcom Online Repository for the selected version. Please provide a valid active token for the selected version."

  • Attempting to load the download URL directly in a browser returns a "Not Entitled" message. Example URL:
    https://dl.broadcom.com/<downloadToken>/PROD/COMP/VCENTER/vmw/########-####-####-####-########/8.0.3.00500/package-pool/###########################################.blob

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

A connection to the Broadcom Online Repository fails during the update of a vCenter Server. The "Not Entitled" response indicates one of the following scenarios:

  • The site ID associated with the token lacks a valid, active contract.

  • The license key or contract does not cover the specific product versions requested for download.

Resolution

  1. Verify that the site ID tied to the token has a valid, active contract.

  2. Ensure that appropriate license keys exist for the versions being downloaded. For instance, if the contract contains only vSphere 8.x keys and the token applies to vSphere 7.x, the downloads fail. Review Upgrade and Downgrade VMware License Keys via the Broadcom support portal for instructions on modifying license keys.
