VCF Operations Import Fails at Fleet Lifecycle Stage in VCF 9.1

Issue/Introduction

During a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) or VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) 9.1 deployment, the installer fails at the "Import VCF Operations in Fleet Lifecycle" stage. with error: "Unexpected server error has occurred"

Environment

VMware vSphere Foundation 9.1 

Cause

 A VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations appliance was deployed without a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), causing its operating system to fall back to the default hostname (VMwareCloudFoundationOperationsClusterNode).

Resolution

To resolve this issue please follow the steps outlined: 

1. Create a dedicated direct DNS record (both forward and reverse lookup zones) pointing the chosen FQDN to the VCF Operations appliance IP address
2. Change the appliance hostname by following KB 337564
3. Configure a Certificate For Use With VCF Operations following KB 320343
4. Return to the VCF Installer wizard interface to retry the Join the existing operations appliance task.
   • Retry the Join the existing operations appliance task step using the newly configured FQDN.
   • Accept the certificate thumbprint prompt and proceed with the deployment.
