Issue/Introduction

You have determined with the help of Technical Support that a data drive needs to be replaced on the SV-S550 appliance.

Environment

SSL Visibility SV-S550 deployed in network with a failed drive.

Cause

A data disk has failed, it needs to be repaired.

Resolution

If you are replacing a drive that has failed, identify the drive by doing the following:

Log in to the SSLV Management Console and view Monitor -> System Status page.  Make a note of the drive number that has are failed. Refer to the appliance's Admin Guide for more information.

Power the box down.  Press the eject button of the drive you want to replace. The carrier latch opens and the drive ejects. Remove the carrier.
Insert the replacement drive, with its carrier latch open, in the empty drive bay. Make sure the drive is oriented with the eject button to the left. Insert the drive all the way by pushing the carrier body until it clicks into place. Close the carrier latch.

Once the disk is in you can power up the box.  When the box comes up you should be able to access the GUI.  Make sure you have console connected for the next steps.

You will need to do a reset configuration to factory defaults as the new drive will need to be repartitioned.  You can do the reset configuration to factory defaults from the GUI.  For information on doing a factory reset, see the following KB Article 205933.

Choose to reboot the box with the reset configuration to factory defaults option enabled and reboot.

The box should go into a reboot, and the reset configuration to factory defaults should be completed, and come back up.  At this point it should be partitioned correctly.

After the box is back up issue the command "diagnostics heartbeat view".  In case when the partitioning is good (dual disk usage) you should see vg_pvol_2-sessionlog in the output:

name" : "/dev/mapper/vg_pvol_2-sessionlog"

If this is present the drive has been successfully installed and repartitioned.
