Issue/Introduction

In VCF Operations 9.1.x, attempting to apply a license to a vCenter Server fails even though proper network connectivity between VCF Operations, vCenter, and the License Server exists as per this Error: "Licenses could not be assigned to vCenters", seen during license assignment on VCF 9.1 (424533)
When searching within the VCF Operations user interface (UI), multiple license server objects may appear in the search results, even though only a single valid license server is actively registered with the appliance.

Environment

VCF Operations 9.1.x

Cause

This issue occurs when a license server is redeployed, leaving a stale object entry from the previous deployment within the VCF Operations inventory. The presence of this duplicate, inactive entry conflicts with the license synchronization process and prevents new licenses from being successfully applied.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow the steps mentioned below:
  1. Log in to the VCF Operations UI as local user "admin" account.

  2. Use the global search bar to locate your license server objects.

  3. Identify the stale license server object, which will display a status of Not Collecting or No Data Receiving.

  4. Delete the stale license server object from the VCF Operations inventory.

  5. Retry applying the licenses to the vCenter Servers.
