Unexpected OS restart requested after LiveUpdate on SEP 14.3.x

Issue/Introduction

SEP 14.3.x agents managed by Integrated Cyber Defense Manager (ICDm) may display a notification requesting an OS restart after LiveUpdate completes.

Environment

  • "Latest Release" (SEP 16) auto-upgrade is enabled in ICDm System Policy under [Product Upgrade Settings]
  • SEP 14.3.x agents installed on a Windows OS that is not patched for Microsoft "Trusted Signing" (formerly Azure Code Signing / ACS)

Cause

Because the environment is non-compliant with "Trusted Signing", the auto-upgrade to SEP 16 fails. During this failure process, an incorrect status code is returned to the LiveUpdate engine, which mistakenly triggers a reboot request.

Resolution

Our Engineering team is investigating this issue and will update this document when a solution becomes available. 

Workaround:

This restart request follows the configuration set in the System Policy under [Client Restart Settings] - [Restart Type].
