VMware Avi Load Balancer

Issue/Introduction

NSX Load Balancer Entitlement :

As documented in the VCF 9.0 release notes (VCF 9.0 Release notes - NSX), VMware by Broadcom has changed the entitlement of the built-in NSX Load Balancer (also known as VCF Load Balancer) from VCF 9.0 onwards.

It is recommended (link) that customers requiring general-purpose or advanced load balancing capabilities purchase VMware Avi Load Balancer.

Environment

VCF 9.0 / VCF 9.1

Resolution

Customers currently utilizing NSX load balancer functionality in VCF 9.0/9.1 may continue to use NSX Load Balancer until May 30, 2027, provided they have secured the equivalent Avi licenses.

Avi License Requirement:100 qualified VCF cores = 1 Avi Service Unit (SU)

Determination of qualified VCF cores:

  • Only count VCF cores associated with NSX Manager instances with NSX Load Balancer enabled
  • Apply the 100:1 ratio to derive required Avi SUs

License Term:

Avi licenses must be co-termed with the customer’s VCF license term.

Tool to speed up transition:

Leverage vDefend and Avi Conversion Tool (vACT) to simplify and speed up NSX Load Balancer to Avi transition
