Issue/Introduction

This article describes uninstall methods for the Symantec Endpoint Security Agent (ESA) for macOS 16.0 using Terminal or by using the Symantec Endpoint Security Agent (ESA) for macOS 16.0 Cleanwipe tool.

Environment

Mac devices with the Symantec Endpoint Security Agent (ESA) for macOS 16.0 installed.

Resolution

Terminal Method:

  1. Open Terminal on the Mac device.
  2. If SEP is the only product, run: sudo /Applications/Endpoint\ Security\ Agent.app/Contents/Resources/uninstall
  3. If WSS is installed, add the --product parameter:
    • For WSS: sudo /Applications/Endpoint\ Security\ Agent.app/Contents/Resources/uninstall --product wss
    • For SEP: sudo /Applications/Endpoint\ Security\ Agent.app/Contents/Resources/uninstall --product sep

If an uninstallation password has been configured in the Symantec Endpoint Security System policy, use these parameters: --password sep --password <password>

Example:

–sudo /Applications/Endpoint\ Security\ Agent.app/Contents/Resources/uninstall --product sep --password <password>

If the --password parameters aren't used with the Terminal uninstall command, the user will be prompted for uninstall password during the uninstall process.

Example:

% sudo /Applications/Endpoint\ Security\ Agent.app/Contents/Resources/uninstall --product sep
Uninstalling sep...
Please enter the uninstall password:
Successfully uninstalled sep.

Cleanwipe Method:

  1. Download the ESA_cleanwipe_Mac_16.0.0.pkg package from Article 178870.
  2. Follow the steps in the Endpoint Security Agent Clean Wipe Guide_ESA_Mac.docx.
