Issue/Introduction
You can use several methods to uninstall the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) product components, such as through the Windows Control Panel. If these common methods fail, you can download and use the Symantec CleanWipe removal tool using the instructions below.
WARNING:
Broadcom Support does not recommend using CleanWipe the first time you have uninstallation trouble. You should only use CleanWipe as a last resort when the usual uninstallation methods are unsuccessful.
You should always use the latest version of the CleanWipe removal tool to uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection. While CleanWipe can remove older installations of Symantec Endpoint Protection, you should not use an older version of CleanWipe to remove a newer version, as this action can have unexpected results.
CleanWipe does not support command line use; you must manually run CleanWipe.
Starting with 14.3 RU10, a password is required to run CleanWipe. The administrator creates this default client password during the installation or upgrade of the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. You can customize this password by modifying a group's Password settings.
If a client is in a group where the Password settings HAVE NOT been customized, the default client password is required to run CleanWipe.
If a client is in a group where the Password settings have been customized, use the customized password to run CleanWipe.
SEP 14 to 14.3 RU9 includes CleanWipe functionality directly into the Symantec Endpoint Protection client package. You can enable this the Remove existing Symantec Endpoint Protection client software that cannot be uninstalledoption with client installation settings. For more information, see About uninstalling the Symantec Endpoint Protection client.
