Issue/Introduction

In the VMware Cloud Director Tenant Portal, an administrator or user attempts to modify the CPU or memory of a Virtual Machine, but the hardware options are greyed out or unselectable.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

This issue is caused by the Virtual Machine inheriting a non-modifiable sizing policy.
When a vApp Template is created to a Catalog without enabling the "Modifiable" checkbox in the "TAG WITH COMPUTE POLICIES" section, any Virtual Machine deployed from that template is locked to the pre-defined CPU and memory settings.

Resolution

Since the sizing policy on the existing Virtual Machine cannot be modified directly, a workaround is required by copying of the vApp instance and assigning it a modifiable policy.

Workaround

  1. Copy the vApp.
For details, refer to the following : Copy a Stopped vApp to Another Virtual Data Center in the VMware Cloud Director Tenant Portal

  2. Switch to a different sizing policy and then adjust CPU and Memory.
For details, refer to the following : Change the Hardware Properties of a Virtual Machine
