Issue/Introduction

Following a network interruption causing a vSAN cluster partition the vSAN Skyline Health service reports an error for "Stats DB object conflicts".

The datastore shows multiple stats DB objects named as vsan.stats , vsan.stats-1 , vsan.stats-2 , etc

Environment

vSAN (all version)

Cause

During a network partition, the vSAN cluster may elect multiple "Stats Masters" across different sub-clusters.
Each master creates or claims a statistics object to ensure performance data collection continues.
Upon cluster re-convergence, the Performance Service detects these redundant objects. To prevent data corruption, vSAN renames the conflicting directories by appending a numeric suffix

Resolution

NOTE: vsan.stats folders contain historical vSAN performance data. If this data is required for audit purposes or would like to be kept, make a Backup of these folders by using the Datastore Browser. Merging of multiple Stats DB objects is not supported.
  1. Via Datastore Browser: Delete the "vsan.stats" folders/directories which contain a number in their name (as outlined above)

  2. In vSAN Skyline Health verify that the Warning "Stats DB object conflictsis now gone by hitting retest in vSAN Health

  3. Verify the error is resolved
