Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter is running  7.0 U2 receiving error in Update Planner "Unexpected error occurred while fetching the updates"
  • Log lines similar to the below are encountered in //var/log/vmware/sso/vmware-identity-sts log
    <timestamp> INFO sts[78:tomcat-http--42] [CorId=96171d23-###-####-####-#######] [com.vmware.identity.sts.ws.SOAPFaultHandler] Returning a SOAP Fault with code: ns0:FailedCheck and description: Signature is invalid.
  • Also referenced in the VMware vLCM (vSphere Lifecycle Manager) logs located in /var/log/vmware/vlcm/twisted_server.log
    <timestamp> error vlcm Exchange failed with: ns0:FailedCheck: Signature is invalid.
    <timestamp> error vlcm H5 SAML Response Code Expected 204, but got 502
    <timestamp> error vlcm [opID=vapi] Authentication failed.
    <timestamp>error vlcm [opID=vapi] Unable to authenticate user
    <timestamp>error vlcm [opID=vapi] Security Context missing in the request

Cause

 vSphere Lifecycle Manager failing to authenticate due to a failed signature validation when attempting to get a new token.

Resolution

Workaround 

  • SSH into the VCSA and restart the vSphere-ui service , Note that this is a temporary fix
    service-control --restart vsphere-ui
  • This issue is resolved in VMware vSphere vCenter 7.0 U3 and later . See Download Broadcom Products and software
