During a new VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) deployment, the SDDC Manager workflow fails during the task to register a Compute Manager (vCenter Server) with VMware NSX.
The following symptoms are observed:
VMware NSX
The registration failure is caused by a duplicate registration attempt.
In this scenario, the vCenter Server (Compute Manager) had been manually registered within the NSX Manager UI prior to triggering the SDDC Manager workflow.
Since Compute Manager cannot be registered with the same NSX instance more than once, the SDDC Manager API call to register the vCenter is rejected by NSX due to the existing conflict.
This issue is resolved by removing the pre-existing, manual registration to allow the SDDC Manager to manage the lifecycle of the connection.
1.Log in to the NSX Manager UI.
2.Navigate to System > Fabric > Compute Managers.
3.Identify the Compute Manager that was registered manually (this will match the vCenter FQDN/IP being used in the SDDC workflow).
4.Select the Compute Manager and click Delete.
Note: Ensure no other active transport node configurations depend on this specific manual registration before deleting.
5.Once the manual entry is removed, return to SDDC Manager.
6.Restart the failed task or the workflow. The SDDC Manager will now be able to register the Compute Manager successfully.
