vCenter server restore failing with error "Error in method invocation list index out of range"

Issue/Introduction

The deployment is failing because it is timing out.

Environment

vCenter 8.0

Cause

• DNS domain was removed from the environment and backed up vCenter was configured using the old DNS domain.
• vCenter is also on a different network and IP address and/or hostname need to be changed.  

Resolution

• Normal vCenter operation requires functional DNS and valid forward and reverse records.

• If you are going to use the vCert script in later steps (recommended), download and transfer the vCert script to vCenter in /root.
• Take a powered off snapshot of vCenter and disconnect the NIC.
  • Log into the ESXi Host UI that is running the vCenter.
  • Power down vCenter.
  • Take a snapshot of vCenter.
  • Edit vCenter VM settings and Disconnect the VM's NIC. 
  • Power vCenter on.
• Verify vCenter network is configured to use subnet and VLAN.  
• If vCenter is not on Distributed switch Ephemeral port group, or Standard switch, follow KB vCenter network connectivity lost - Recover vCenter network when connected to a Distributed Switch move vCenter to a Standard switch before making any changes to the networking.  
• Update/create valid forward and reverse DNS records for new hostname and IP address.
• Follow KB Changing IP address of VCSA using VAMI fails with "Unable to save settings. Check internet connection and server status" to change hostname.
• Follow KB Changing IP address of VCSA using VAMI fails with "Unable to save settings. Check internet connection and server status" to change IP address.
• Follow KB Changing IP address of VCSA using VAMI fails with "Unable to save settings. Check internet connection and server status" to change DNS.
• Use vCert or desired method to replace CA certificates and reissue certificates with new hostname and IP address.  
• Reconnect vCenter VM NIC.  
• Restart vCenter.
