Issue/Introduction

In a VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x cluster, VCF Adapter instances may display a Warning state under Administration > Integrations > VCF.

Symptoms observed in the environment include:

  • VCF Adapter instance status is Warning (as shown in the 1st screenshot).

  • VMware Infrastructure Health (VIH) adapter instance collection status is None or Not collecting data (as shown in the 2nd screenshot).

  • Manual attempts to restart collection on the VIH adapter instance through the UI do not change the status.

  • Test Connection for the VCF adapter remains successful, and port 443 connectivity to vCenter is verified.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

  • The issue is caused by a cluster-level inconsistency or service hang within the internal VMware Infrastructure Health (VIH) adapter service.

  • Because the VCF Adapter relies on health data provided by the VIH adapter, a failure in VIH collection cascades to a Warning state for VCF instances even when credentials and network connectivity are valid.

Resolution

Follow these steps in order to restore adapter collection:

Step 1: Manually Restart VIH Collection

  1. Navigate to Operations > Configurations > Inventory Management > Adapter Instances > VMware Infrastructure Health (VIH) Adapter Instance.

  2. Locate the affected VMware Infrastructure Health (VIH) Adapter Instance.

  3. Select the instance and click the Stop Collecting (square icon), then click the Start Collecting (play icon).

  4. Monitor the status for two minutes to see if it transitions to Green/OK.

Step 2: Restart the Aria Operations Cluster If the VIH collection status remains "None" or "Not collecting data" after the manual restart, you must cycle the cluster state:

  1. Log in to the Aria Operations Admin UI (https://<AriaOpsFQDN>/admin).

  2. Click the Take Cluster Offline button and wait for the process to complete.

  3. Once the cluster is offline, click the Bring Cluster Online button.

  4. After the cluster is back online, verify that both VIH and VCF Adapter statuses have returned to Green/OK.

Contact Broadcom Support if the Adapter status is still in "None" or "Not collecting data" state.
