ESXi upgrade fails in SDDC Manager UI but completes successfully in vCenter

Issue/Introduction

• ESXi patching from vCF operations fails with below error:

ESX vLCM upgrade failed. Contact Broadcom Technical Support for assistance.

• When reviewing the update activity of the failed task, there is a failure during "Postcheck: phase with below error:

Post processing after a successful remediation failed. Cluster is unhealthy

• When reviewing the ESXi hosts in vCenter, all the ESXi hosts are already patched to the required version
• In VCF operations, one ESXi host may still show the old version

Cause

This issue is caused when the cluster state takes time to return to a healthy state after the ESXi hosts are remediated. Due to this the upgrade task fails and the last patched ESXi host will still shows the old version in VCF operations

Resolution

If you encounter the symptoms outlined above, contact Broadcom Technical Support for further assistance as the resolution involves modifying the SDDC Manager Database which should be performed with caution.
