Issue/Introduction

  • NSX installation failed on a host/cluster that is managed by vLCM
  • NSX Installation failed at stage 'vLCM remediation initiated' with the following error

Failed to install software on host. Solution apply failed because the vSphere Lifecycle image contains either a new ESXi version or a new addons version or new components. Please proceed to the vSphere Client Lifecycle Manager to update ESXi or addons or components along with the solution 'com.vmware.nsxt' Solution apply failed on host: 'xxx-xxxxxx-xxx-xxxx.xxx.broadcom.net'. The vSphere Lifecycle Manager image  contains a new 'Dell addon for PowerEdge Servers' addon version '803-A02'. Please proceed to the vSphere Client Lifecycle Manager to update the addon and the solution 'com.vmware.nsxt'Solution apply failed on host: 'xxx-xxxxxx-xxx-xxxx.xxx.broadcom.net'

  • The workaround of restarting the 'upgrade-coordinator' service does not resolve the issue : /etc/init.d/upgrade-coordinator restart
  • The "Configure NSX" option was attempted, but it did not resolve the issue.
  • As a workaround, simply removing and re-adding it to the vCenter cluster is not sufficient. Because the host is managed by SDDC, a full re-image is mandatory for it to rejoin the SDDC cluster.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

The ESXi host configuration status under management shows "ERROR" instead of "Active."

It seems like host was upgraded directly from the vCSA and NSX VIB was pushed later from NSX Manager and everything seems intact with the same host, but it was just throwing error at the SDDC Manager

Resolution

Open a Broadcom support ticket with the SDDC team to further troubleshoot this issue.

Additional Information

The following KB article explains the reason for the Host Configuration to show in 'ERROR' state on the SDDC - Unable to patch ESXi host from the SDDC Manager
