Issue/Introduction

  • Service Mesh creation fails during the deployment and configuration of the interconnect appliance
  • The following error message appears on screen:
"Service Mesh creation failed. Process Service Mesh failed. Deploy and Configuration of interconnect Appliance Failed. Interconnect Service Workflow AppliancePostConfig failed. Error: NEW-IX appliance is not reachable on management network (IP: ##.##.##.##)"
  • All other service meshes in the environment function normally
  • Only this specific Service Mesh deployment is affected

Steps to validate:

  • Unable to PING the NEW-IX appliance from HCX Manager
  • TRACEROUTE commands to the NEW-IX appliance fail
  • Other IX appliances in the same environment are reachable and functioning properly
  • The failure occurs specifically at the AppliancePostConfig stage

Environment

VMware HCX

Cause

The issue is caused by a routing problem between two different /24 networks, preventing Layer 3 communication between the HCX Manager and the NEW-IX appliance on the management network.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, configure proper routing between the two /24 networks:

  1. Review and verify routing tables on both the source and destination networks
  2. Ensure proper routing rules or static routes exist to allow traffic between the two /24 subnets
  3. Verify that firewalls, security groups, or network ACLs are not blocking traffic between the networks
  4. Confirm that the default gateway configuration is correct on both the HCX Manager and NEW-IX appliance
  5. Test connectivity using PING and TRACEROUTE after making routing changes
  6. Once network connectivity is established, retry the Service Mesh creation process

The Service Mesh deployment should complete successfully once proper Layer 3 routing is established between the management networks.

If the error persists after following these steps, contact Broadcom Support for further assistance.
