Issue/Introduction

Total number of cores mismatch when attempting to reconcile "Current Usage" in Settings --> License and Usage in VCF Operations for Networks

When you log into the VCF Operations for Networks GUI, you observe the warning message described in KB License count exceeded. Please add additional license keys warning message is seen on GUI

When you observe the number to the right of "Total Core Usage", you believe that number is higher than what you might see when doing an inventory of the number of cores in use for the environment, but other methods.

NOTE:  VCF Operations for Networks was formerly named Aria Operations for Networks (AON), and prior to that was named vRealize Network Insight (vRNI).

Cause

In the documentation for Per Core License Usage Calculation each core in a processor (CPU) requires a Per Core license, and any processor with less than 16 cores also requires 16 Per Core licenses.

The Minimum purchase unit is 16 cores per processor.

Resolution

You can calculate the license count for all processors (servers, also known as ESXi hosts) using the following formula for each ESXi host:

Math.max(CPU cores,16)
