VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms

Deployment of a VCF Operations for Networks 9.0.x node fails in the vCenter UI with the following:

error: 1 required file(s) missing: browse again and use multiple selection to reselect the OVF template and all required files. If you are trying to import a .ova file then it may be missing file(s).

The error specifically references missing .nvram files such as:

  • VMware-Cloud-Foundation-Operations-for_networks-9.0.2.0.25119547-collector-file1.nvram
  • VMware-Cloud-Foundation-Operations-for-Networks-9.0.x.x-platform-file1.nvram

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0.0, 9.0.1, 9.0.2

  • VCF Operations for Networks 9.0.x

Cause

  • VCF Operations for Networks 9.0 is an integrated component of the VCF 9.0 stack.

  • Manual OVF/OVA deployments via the vSphere Client are deprecated and unsupported.

  • These deployments fail file validation because the deployment must be managed by the integrated Lifecycle Management (LCM) engine

Resolution

Deploy the appliance using the VCF Operations Fleet Management interface.

Phase 1: Infrastructure Deployment

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations interface with Administrator credentials.

  2. Navigate to Build > Lifecycle > VCF Management.

  3. Select the VCF Operations for Networks component.

  4. Open the Actions menu and select Node Management.

  5. Select Add Collector Node.

  6. Enter the IP address, FQDN, and credentials for the new collector.

  7. Click ADD to execute the automated deployment.

Phase 2: Application Configuration (Data Source Assignment)

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations for Networks application UI.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Accounts and Data Sources.

  3. Click Add Source.

  4. Under the Flows category, select Physical Flow Collector (Netflow, sFlow).

  5. In the configuration dialog, select the newly deployed collector node from the Target Collector drop-down menu.

    • Note: Do not select 'Add Collector VM' as this triggers the legacy secret-generation workflow incompatible with VCF 9.0.x.

  6. Enter a Nickname and click Submit.

Fixed in release 9.0.0 and higher. See Download Broadcom products and software for steps to download this release.

Additional Information

  • If the environment does not utilize VCF 9.0, deploy Aria Operations for Networks 6.14.x instead.
