Recovery steps after deleting the original cluster and manually creating a new cluster in a VCF environment

Issue/Introduction

  • In the VCF environment, the ESX host was reinstalled. The previous cluster was removed from vCenter, and a new cluster was manually created with the ESX host added.
  • The SDDC inventory is no longer in sync with the previous hosts and clusters.

Environment

VMware SDDC Manager 9.0

Cause

In the VCF environment, deleting a cluster and recreating it with hosts outside of SDDC Manager is not a supported operation.

Resolution

  1. Following How to remove stale hosts from VCF inventory by enabling force to decommission  performe the decommission of the stale host using Postman.
  2. Following How to manually remove a stale cluster from the SDDC Manager database after an unsuccessful cluster deletion attempt remove the stale cluster information from SDDC Manager.
  3. Following Identifying and Cleaning Up Orphan/Stale Host Entries in NSX Manager to remove the stale host entries in NSX Manager
  4. Refer to the following documentation to recommission the host and create a new cluster.
