Error: Host is degraded in NSX Manager GUI (VMware NSX)

Issue/Introduction

An ESXi host appears in a degraded state within the NSX Manager user interface. While the network configuration is stable and connectivity is verified, the GUI does not reflect the current status.

• The NSX Manager GUI displays the host status as "Degraded."
• Tunnel IP (TEP) is reachable and correctly configured on the affected host.
• The host may have a long uptime or stale cached information.
• Other hosts in the same Distributed Virtual Switch (DVS) environment appear normal.

Environment

VMware ESXi 8.0

VMware NSX 4.2.1

Cause

The degraded status is caused by a stale state in the NSX Manager cache. This typically occurs due to long host uptime or a synchronization delay between the host and the management plane, even when the underlying data plane and TEP configuration are functional.

Resolution

1. Perform a rolling reboot of the NSX Manager cluster to clear the cached management state.
2. If the status remains degraded, perform a rolling reboot of the affected ESXi host to refresh the connection to the NSX Manager.
3. Verify the host status in the NSX Manager GUI after the reboots are complete.
