Issue/Introduction

  • Requirement to move a new cluster to Image-based management.
  • For managing hosts with images or converting baseline ESXi updates to images for standardized lifecycle management.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Resolution

  • Log in to the vSphere Client with administrator credentials, select the target vCenter cluster, and go to the "Updates" tab.
  • Click "Validate" to check host compatibility, then "Save" and "Finish Image Setup" to finalize the image configuration.
  • Select an ESXi host, go to "Actions → Remediate", and apply the image.
  • After completion, click "Done" and repeat remediation for the remaining hosts in the cluster.
