Issue/Introduction

1) When attempting to place an ESXi host into maintenance mode, the process fails with the following error: " Failed migrating vCLS VM vCLS-*******-****-****-****-************ during host evacuation. Fault cause: vmodl.fault.ManagedObjectNotFound .Try to manually power it off or again migrate to another host in the cluster "

2) Attempts to power off the vCLS VM failed with below error:

3) The "Remove from Inventory" option is greyed out, and the VM is not visible in either the host UI or via CLI. Additionally, retreat mode also fails to remove the VM.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs due to the presence of a stale vCLS VM entry in the environment.
The stale vCLS VM prevents the host from entering maintenance mode and cannot be managed through the standard vSphere methods.

Resolution

To resolve the issue clean up the stale entries of the vCLS VM's from the postgres DB.

Note: Ensure there is valid backup/offline snapshot of the VCSA prior to implementing the workaround. Refer to VMware vCenter in Enhanced Linked Mode pre-changes snapshot (online or offline) best practice
