Unexpected error while upgrading upgrade unit: RPC timed out while running command DeleteUser on host

Issue/Introduction

On the NSX UI -> System -> Upgrade -> Hosts , NSX upgrade on the Host tab is stuck with the error :
" Unexpected error while upgrading upgrade unit: RPC timed out while running command DeleteUser on host".



 

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

This happens due to RPC time out while running command IsHostInMaintenanceMode on host.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware NSX 9.0, available at Broadcom downloads.
If you are having difficulty finding and downloading software, please review the Download Broadcom products and software KB.

Workaround as below: 

1. Navigate to the affected Host in the vcenter.
2. Put that Host in maintenance mode manually and wait for few minutes. 
3. Check the status of upgrade on the NSX UI if resumed. 
4. If still the same, click on 'Retry'.
