How to Re-Register / Transfer a VCF Usage Meter Instance to another tenant

Issue/Introduction

• You need to transfer a usage meter instance from one tenant site to another tenant.
• VCF Usage Meter has been unregistered from an active tenant site successfully as per: How to unregister a VCF Usage Meter instance
• Now attempting to register this VCF Usage meter instance to a new tenant site fails with error 
  "The Usage Meter UUID has been taken in other tenant"

This article and the backend migration process described below are applicable only in cases where access to the source and destination tenants/sites cannot be set up for a single user account.  

Example: In the case of a merger or acquisition of companies, users from the source tenant cannot or should not have access to the destination tenant (as it is a different organization) and vice versa.

If a single user account performing the migration can be added to both the source and destination tenants/sites, follow the steps mentioned in the document.

Environment

• VCF usage meter 9.x

Cause

• You can only register one VCF Usage Meter instance to one tenant at a time.
• Currently, the transfer/ migration of a Usage Meter instance between tenants (where a single user does not have permissions across both) is not supported from the VCF Business Services console UI and would need to be modified at the VCF Business Services console backend.

Resolution

Currently the modifications of Usage Meter instance migration would need to be done by the Broadcom Team. 

• Follow the below steps to revoke the access token:
  Revoke an Access Token in the VCF Business Services Console
• Reach out to Broadcom Support with below details:
  
  • Usage Meter name and ID
  • Old Tenant Name and ID
  • New Tenant Name and ID 
• Await a migration/ Site Registration confirmation from Broadcom Support Team. 
• Generate a new access token 
  Generate an Access Token in the VCF Business Services Console
• Reconfigure UM to use the access token:
  Update Access Token Details in VCF Usage Meter
• Validate that metering for the tenant is functional as expected.
