Issue/Introduction

  • Protection group part of Array based replication shows as empty and the associated datastores display "0".

  • Virtual machines may be displayed on the protection group. Only datastores may show '0' after performing storage rescan on the vCenter UI.

Environment

VMware Site Recovery Manager 9.0.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

Protection group shows '0' datastores when storage LUN backing the datastores are forcefully removed or deleted from the storage array end.

If proper cleanup is not done there may be inconsistencies on the site recovery leading to stale entries on the SRM database.

  • Storage device backing the datastore which is part of array based replication show permanently inaccessible in hosts /var/run/log/vmkernel.log.

Resolution

Follow the proper storage LUN clean up procedure at Site recovery and ESXi before deleting the storage LUN from storage array end to avoid any inconsistencies on the protection group and SRM database.
