Issue/Introduction

You have discovered a device via SNMPCollector and it is being monitored correctly. However, the vendor and model displayed in OC appear to be different.

Example:

Router Nokia 7750

appears as:

Alcatel 7750

Why does this happen?

Is there a way to change the Vendor and the model that appear in the Device Details in Operator Console (OC)?

Environment

  • DX UIM 23.4.*
  • snmpcollector

Cause

The device that are certified by the snmpcollector probe can be checked here DX UIM - SNMP Device Support

It may happen that a device that was previously certified, may change vendor.

In this specific example, the Nokia device was previously known as Alcatel lucent:

Nokia (formerly AlcatelLucent) 7450, 7705, 7710, 7750, 7950 routers, TiMOS version 3.x - 15.x

Resolution

For updaring the name is such a scenario the device woudl need to be recertified from scratch with the new vendor's name.

Alternatively, some UPDATE custom queries can be issued to the DB to update how OC displays a certain device. This option has limits as when the device it's rediscovered it may revert the changes in the discovery tables. If these queries are needed, log a support case in DX UIM Support.
