Issue/Introduction

Depending on the number of hosts and Storage Policies in use, the disable Deduplication and/or Compression task may complete on some of the diskgroups but will eventually fail.

Environment

vSAN OSA 7.x

vSAN OSA 8.x

vSAN OSA 9.x

Cause

Storage Policy applied to VMs have Space Efficiency (datastoreSpaceEfficiency) under Storage rules set.

Resolution

Edit the Storage Policy and set Space efficiency to No preference as per the following screenshot:

Enablement of Deduplication / Compression is supposed to happen at the cluster level and is not supported at the object level.

This Storage rule was added to support the HCI-Mesh feature.
