VMware NSX

Issue/Introduction

  • The NSX installation on the ESXi Transport Node fails during deployment or update operations

  • The NSX displays the following error message
Failed to install software on host. Cannot download VIB 'https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/vmtools-main/vmtools/vmw/vib20/tools-light/VMware_locker_tools-light_######-24283371.vib'. This might be because of network issues or the specified VIB does NOT exist or does NOT have a proper 'read' privilege set. Make sure the specified VIB exists and is accessible from vCenter Server. Host 'hostname' was not processed, the reason: 'Cannot download VIB 'https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/vmtools-main/vmtools/vmw/vib20/tools-light/VMware_locker_tools-light_########-24283371.vib'. This might be because of network issues or the specified VIB does NOT exist or does NOT have a proper 'read' privilege set. Make sure the specified VIB exists and is accessible from vCenter Server.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

The issue occurs because vCenter Lifecycle Management (vLCM) fails to download ESXi patches or images from the Broadcom repositories due to repository access issues or configuration mismatches.

Resolution

  1. Re-configure vCenter Lifecycle Management (vLCM) settings in vCenter.

  2. Refer to KB article 390121 for specific reconfiguration steps regarding vLCM synchronization and settings.

  3. Retry the NSX installation or deployment workflow on the affected host.
