Issue/Introduction

Need information how the emails are process when it is held in the Spam or Suspect Virus / Content Incident  quarantine.

Environment

SMG 10.8 10.9

Resolution

When You release emails from the Spam Quarantine then it is released from the appliances with quarantine role (standalone quarantine or combobox control center with quarantine ).

When You release emails from the Content Quarantine it is released to the first Scanner record in the SMG Control Center Administration > Configuration host list.

 

1. Spam Quarantine – Mail Flow Logic

Inbound:
Internet => Scanner (Inbound interface IP)
Scanner (Inbound interface IP) => Control Center (Quarantine IP) on port 41025
Upon manual release => Control Center sends to next-hop host based on Administration > Control Center > SMTP configuration

Outbound:
Internal Mail Server => Scanner (Outbound interface IP)
Scanner (Outbound interface IP) => Control Center (Quarantine IP) on port 41025
Upon manual release => Control Center sends to next-hop host as above

 

2. Suspect Virus / Content Incident Quarantine – Mail Flow Logic

Inbound:
Internet => Scanner (Inbound interface IP)
Scanner (Inbound interface IP) => Control Center (Quarantine IP) on port 41025
Upon manual release => Control Center => first scanner in the list on port 41015
Scanner (Inbound interface IP) => Internal Mail Server

Outbound:
Internal Mail Server => Scanner (Outbound interface IP)
Scanner (Outbound interface IP) => Control Center (Quarantine IP) on port 41025
Upon manual release => Control Center => first scanner in the list on port 41015
Scanner (Outbound interface IP) => External Mail Server
