VMware Tools 12.5.x Installation Fails During HCX OSAM Migration of Windows VMs

Issue/Introduction

• OSAM migration on the Windows Virtual Machine (VM) fails with the error below

⚠️ Warning: If the VMware tools version available on vCenter is greater than or equal to 12.5.0, then VMware tools cannot be installed on the migrated system during the HCX OS Assisted Migration fix-up process and the migration will fail. Please upgrade the Windows sentinel agent to 4.11.1 and retry the migration.

• VMware Tools of the Source VM (to be migrated) is lower than the target ESXi hosts which are configured with VMware Tools 12.5.x as the default version for guest deployment.

Cause

This issue occurs due to an incompatibility between the version of the HCX Windows Sentinel agent used during the OSAM fixup process and VMware Tools version 12.5.x on the target ESXi host.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware HCX 4.11.3, available at Broadcom downloads.
