Issue/Introduction

Maintenance Mode (MM) pre-check fails with error "Additional host is required".

Check if objects are using a RAID_5 storage policy in 4x4 stretch cluster, or 4 node vSAN cluster via the below command:

esxcli vsan debug object list | grep RAID_5

Environment

VMware vSAN (All Versions)

Cause

Objects using a Raid_5 Storage Policy (SP), in 4x4 stretch cluster, or 4 node vSAN cluster doesn't have enough resources for a Full Data Migration as 4 fault domains is the minimum for RAID 5 compliance.

 

Resolution

Refer to KB vSAN host fails to enter Maintenance Mode with 'Full data migration' option selected
