Issue/Introduction

When restoring a backup from one Control Center to another, it's important to understand how scanner and network configurations are handled. This article explains what settings are transferred and what remains unchanged during the backup restoration process.

Environment

You have a Control Center managing one or more scanners. You take a backup of this Control Center and restore it onto a different Control Center instance (for example, for migration or recovery purposes).

Resolution

  1. Scanner Configuration Replication:

    • The number of scanners that existed on the original Control Center will be replicated exactly on the new Control Center.

    • This includes scanner configuration details such as hostnames and IP addresses.

  2. Scanner Network Settings:

    • The network configuration of the scanners (as defined on the original Control Center) will be applied to the corresponding scanners on the new Control Center.

    • This can potentially cause conflicts or misrouting if the new environment differs from the original one.

  3. Control Center Network Settings:

    • The network configuration of the new Control Center is not overwritten by the backup file.

    • This is by design, as referenced in Article 155160, to ensure the new Control Center retains its own IP settings and routing specific to its environment.

Note:

  • After restoring the backup, it is recommended to manually review the scanner network configurations to ensure they align with the new Control Center’s network.

  • This behavior allows you to quickly mirror the original environment, but you should adjust any settings that might not be applicable in the new infrastructure.
