Issue/Introduction

Environment

VMware vSphere
VMware NSX

Cause

  • The vCenter database is the source of truth for vCenter when performing vDS resource checks.
  • The ESXi host also has a copy of the vDS configurations as push to it from vCenter.
  • Any change to the settings of the vDS are immediately pushed down to the hosts from vCenter.
  • Due to network connectivity issue this syncing can be disrupted.
  • The vDS may show a status of "Out of Snyc" .

Resolution

  1. Place the host into maintenance mode
    Disconnect the host from vCenter
  2. Remove the host from the vCenter inventory

The host will no longer be seen by vCenter inventory service.

  3. Navigate to the vDS under networks to complete the removal of the host from the vDS.

The host is no longer seen in the vCenter inventory but is still held in the vDS configs.
Right click on the vDS and select Add and Manage Hosts

  4. Select Remove hosts
  5. Follow the wizard to complete the host removal.
