Issue/Introduction

When running EXPAND PAGE, the PAGE SIZE is set to the new page size and the ORIGINAL PAGE SIZE must be set to the page size before the EXPAND PAGE.

What about when EXPAND PAGE is run against an area that has already been expanded?

Environment

Release: All supported releases.

Cause

A database area has been EXPANDed in the past and therefore has (for example) an ORIGINAL PAGE SIZE of 1000 and a PAGE SIZE of 2000. The same area must now be expanded again to 3000. Should the new ORIGINAL PAGE SIZE be 1000 or 2000?

Resolution

In such a case, the ORIGINAL PAGE SIZE must remain as 1000. It must be what the page size was when the area was last formatted.

This is documented at AREA Statements - scroll down to ORIGINAL PAGE SIZE original-character-count ...

"Specifies the page size of the area when it was last formatted."

Failing to specify the correct ORIGINAL PAGE SIZE will result in 1138 abends.
