Issue/Introduction

Skyline health in vSphere client reports objects health as "Reduced availability of with no rebuild".
Resync does not trigger.
VM storage policy on these objects may report as "out of date".
Click on reduced availability object > disk placement shows the disk is in RAID 6, however Storage policy rule is set as RAID 1 as seen under Menu > Policies and Profiles > Select Storage Policy > rules.
Unable to edit the VM or change VM Policies under VM edit settings.

'Reapply VM Storage Policy' fails with error:  This method is disabled by 'vShield_SVM'

Environment

vSphere vSAN 7.0
vSphere vSAN 8.0

Cause

This error is due to the NSX VM being managed by the NSX Solution.
This is by default to ensure that users do not accidentally modify these service VMs.

Resolution

Follow the article Unable to apply vSAN Storage Policy on NSX Controller/Edge VMs to access MOB and enable the ReconfigVM_Task so that VM storage policies can now be changed.
