Workaround in migrating from SMG-8380 to SMG-8390

Issue/Introduction

SMG-8380 (EOL) with 10.8.1 cannot be upgraded to 10.9.x (unsupported), whereas SMG-8390 supports 10.9.x.
There is no direct migration path between the two hardwares.

Resolution

Workaround:

• Create a virtual machine with SMG 10.8.1
• Migrate existing 8380's SMG 10.8.1 to this newly created VM's SMG 10.8.1 (see Migrating a Symantec Messaging Gateway Appliance to the Virtual Edition)
• Upgrade the VM's SMG 10.8.1 to SMG 10.9.0
• Then, migrate VM's upgraded SMG 10.9.0 to 8390's pre-loaded SMG 10.9.0
