Issue/Introduction

The Aria Operations admin and root password are getting locked even after we unlock it from Aria Operations CLI .

We have used admin password in integrations like log Insight and VRLCM.

Environment

Aria Operation 8.x

Aria Suite lifecycle 8.x

Cause

  • Integrations with Aria Operations like log insight and LCM are trying to make Requests via admin and root account with wrong credentials continuously.
  • Since we are updating admin password from Aria Operations CLI, the integrations are not aware of this change and keep spamming the admin account with wrong password hence locking it.

Resolution

Follow below steps:

    • Use the vRealize/Aria Operations admin account getting locked even after password reset KB article to identify the endpoints for admin account lockout. In ideal cases you will see they are logInsight and LCM.
    • Change the integration used in LI to 'LI_admin' to break the admin login attempts chain.
    • Create new administartor account in vROps 'LI_admin' and restored connection in loginsight with this one. This will prevent this from happening in future
    • To change admin password in LCM we required current password . the current password saved in locker is incorrect as we have already changed it on appliance. hence we are unable to update this in LCM.
    • As a workaround, we reset admin password 5 times following the How to Reset the Admin Password in VMware Aria Operations KB article
then reset the password back to the one which is save in LCM locker.
    • Now when we do inventory sync in LCM it was complaining about root password had same issue.
    • Follow How to Reset the Root Password in VMware Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations)  KB article  to reset root account 5 times then reset the password back to the one saved in LCM locker.
