The admin user account spans the local OS, as well as the Application. This could lead to the password being locked on one side, and not the other. It's important to follow the necessary steps below very carefully to avoid the account getting misaligned on the local OS vs the Application.
To update or change the admin password in VMware Aria Operations, follow the steps below.
Log into the VMware Aria Operations admin UI as the local admin user.
Example: https://IP_or_FQDN/admin
Note: Replace IP_or_FQDN with the actual IP or FQDN of the VMware Aria Operations UI.
Click the drop-down on the User icon in the upper right corner and click Change Administrator Password.
Enter the current admin password, then enter and confirm a new password.
Click Save.
Log out and back into the admin UI using the new password to confirm it works.
Note before resetting the admin password:
To reset the admin password, follow the steps below:
$VMWARE_PYTHON_BIN $VCOPS_BASE/../vmware-vcopssuite/utilities/sliceConfiguration/bin/vcopsSetAdminPassword.py --reset
Notes:
After changing the admin user password, ensure the password is updated in any existing integrations, such as VMware Aria Operations for Logs (formerly known as vRealize Log Insight) , VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle (formerly known as vRealize Lifecycle Manager) or if using SDDC that it also has the correct password.
For information on resetting the root password, see How to reset the root password in VMware Aria Operations.
If after you reset the password you are unable to login please ensure the account is not locked as per kb Log in to Admin and Product UI as admin fails in Aria Operations
