The ESXi patch upgrade from version 7.0.3 (build 21930508) to 7.0.3 (build 24585291) failed due to a vSAN Skyline Health alert encountered during the process. The cluster remediation was unsuccessful, with the vSAN 'Operation Health' check reporting an issue.
Skyline Health reported an error indicating an absent disk within a disk group on one of the hosts in the vSAN cluster, which prevented the patch process from completing successfully.
The issue was caused by a faulty disk that was identified and subsequently marked as absent in the cluster, disrupting the normal vSAN operations.
This behavior is expected when a disk in a vSAN cluster is faulty or absent, Skyline Health will generate alerts that may impact operations such as patching. Once the underlying hardware issue is resolved, normal functionality resume.
If you replace disk for this issue, please refer this KB: The vSAN disk appears as Absent in vSAN Disk Management
