Issue/Introduction

In the Aria Operations admin UI (https://<AriaOpsNode_IP_or_FQDN>/admin), in the Install New Certificate window, after clicking on BROWSE... and selecting the customer certificate PEM file, it displays a red underline under the file name without any error message. But when you hover over the red underline, the error message "Unable to parse the certificate. Verify that the certificate is valid and try again." is shown as below:

Environment

Aria Operations 8.16 and above

Cause

The private key in the custom certificate chain has the extra word "RSA" in both "BEGIN" and "END" lines. It's encapsulated with:

-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY----

...(omitted for data protection purpose)

-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

Resolution

1. Prerequisites: Make sure the custom certificate is constructed by following Configure a Certificate For Use With VMware Aria Operations.

2. Open the certificate chain PEM file with Notepad or other tools to edit it. Remove RSA from both lines in the private key section so they read:

-----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY-----

...(omitted for data protection purpose)

-----END PRIVATE KEY-----
