vCenter VM that was restored through backup lost network connectivity on vDS

Issue/Introduction

After restoring vCenter server VM using a backup, network connectivity is lost when the vCenter VM is on a Distributed vSwitch.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

Cause

ESXi hosts cannot manage Distributed Switches while vCenter Server is unavailable. To restore vCenter Server's network access, it must be connected to a standard switch the host can control.
