  • Users on some virtual KVM platforms do not have a valid network configuation.
  • Users on VMware and some other platforms are unable to use the second NIC
  • Notifications for user's quarantined messages are not being delivered

Environment

Symantec Messaging Gateway 10.9.1

Resolution

Note: Messaging Gateway systems that were updated to SMG 10.9.1 after Feb 17, 2025 do not need to apply patch 10.9.1-296. Patch 10.9.1-296 is to being older 10.9.1 installations up to date with the re-released 10.9.1 operating system release. Installing the patch on the re-released SMG 10.9.1 will do no harm but will have no effect since the re-release contains all the code fixes in the patch.

The patch may be installed from the command line as follows:

  1. Log into the SMG command line as admin
  2. Run

    patch -p 10.9.1-296 install

Installing the patch using a local web server using the localinstall option

  1. Place the patch ISO on a Web server that is reachable from the Symantec Messaging Gateway server(s).
  2. Log in to the CLI (either through the console, or via SSH) as 'admin'.
  3. Install the patch using the following command string:

     patch localinstall http://hostname/path/to/sms-appliance-patch-10.9.0-295.iso

  4. Repeat the above steps for each Control Centre and each standalone Quarantine server in the deployment.
