Need to upgrade SRM from 8.x to 9.x : Is It safe to upgrade when there is a active replication task on vSphere Replication Appliance?

Issue/Introduction

Symptom : 

  • There is a need to upgrade SRM however there is an active replication task in progress.

Environment

  • VMware Live Recovery 
  • vSphere Replication 

Resolution

  • As per the update sequence mentioned in KB # 308161, The vSphere Replication appliance must be upgraded first, followed by the Site Recovery Manager (SRM) upgrade. However, since an active replication task is in progress, the upgrade process should be postponed until replication is complete to ensure a smooth transition.

  • If an urgent upgrade of vSphere Replication and SRM is required, replication tasks must be paused. Additionally, it is essential to ensure a reliable backup of critical virtual machines before proceeding. The vSphere appliance, SRM, and other components should then be upgraded following the update sequence outlined in KB #308161.
