Issue/Introduction

  • From the vCenter UI -> Affected VM -> Monitor -> Performance -> Overview tab, gaps are observed for all the resource counters as seen below.

Cause

When a vMotion occurs, performance statistics for the virtual machine are cleared from the source ESXi host. The destination host begins collecting new statistics only after the vMotion completes.
If vCenter Server requests performance data during this transition period, the most recent up to 30 minutes of statistics may be unavailable. This gap occurs because the virtual machine resided on the source host during that time, and the associated statistics were removed from that host once the vMotion finished.

Resolution

  • Check for DRS configuration
    • If DRS is "enabled" and set at "Fully automated", then check to see if the vMotion task align with the gaps.
  • If no vMotion task was triggered during the gap, reach out to the Broadcom Support.
