Data Loss Prevention Data Loss Prevention Oracle Standard Edition 2 Data Loss Prevention Core Package

Issue/Introduction

While installing Oracle Database 19c Standard Edition as part of an initial deployment of Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP), the Oracle Database 19c Installer displays the following error message during step 8 of 9 (Install Product):

Failed to add oracle user or group to ORA_OraDB19Home1_DBA group.

When this message appears, the installer's progress indicator shows the current operation is:

updating registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE/KEY_OraDB19Home1'

Cause

The Oracle service account (Oracle Home User) name is the same as the hostname of the server hosting the Oracle database engine.

Resolution

Change the name of the Oracle host server to something other than 'oracle' and re-run the installation.

Alternatively, when configuring settings on the Oracle Home User step (4 of 9) of the Oracle Database 19c Installer as directed by the Oracle 19c Quick Install Guide for Windows, provide an account name for the Oracle Home User that is distinct from the server hostname.
