Issue/Introduction

When adding hosts to a cluster via the configuration Quickstart and receive error that host is not currently configured.

When attempting to finalize the configured host and error for Incompatible Network Configuration is displayed.

Environment

vSAN 8.0x

ESXi 8.0.x

Cause

The Quickstart error is caused by making changes to hosts or adding hosts to a cluster outside of the Quickstart process after Quickstart was used to configure the cluster initially.
Once a cluster has been initially configured with Quickstart all changes or additions must be performed using Quickstart.

Resolution

There are two options for resolution:

  • Option 1, remove and readd the host:
    1. Create a standard vSwitch and assign all but one uplink to it.
    2. Create a vmkernel adapter and assign a secondary management IP to prevent disruption in case of unexpected behavior.
    3. Remove last uplink from VDS, this will disconnect the host network connection to vCenter.
    4. Manually disconnect the host and remove from inventory by right clicking ont he host and choosing "Connection" then "Disconnect" followed by right clicking on the host and choosing "Remove from inventory".
    5. Add the host with the original management IP through Cluster > Configuration > Quickstart
    6. Once added to the cluster you can click configure on the step 3 of Quickstart
    7. Move the uplink from standard vSwitch and delete it, also delete the vmk that is not used anymore

Additional Information

All hosts having the problem with Quickstart have to be removed from the cluster before the process will allow reconfiguring any hosts (this is a problem if they have say a 4 node cluster and 2 or 3 with errors).
